Mrs. Sarla Grewal was born on 4th
October, 1927. In the Year 1952, she entered the
Indian Administrative service (IAS) and was the
second woman IAS officer of India.
Sarla Grewal was the first woman officer of India
who was appointed as the Deputy Commissioner
of Shimla in 1956.
Sarla Grewal was the first IAS officer in the country
to become Director of Education in 1962.
UNICEF Executive Board elected her as Chairman
of the Program Committee for the session 1982-83.
Smt. Sarla Grewal was appointed Principal Secretary
to the Prime Minister on 25th September 1985.
She was the first woman Governor of M.P. (1989-
1990).
