The first female leader of opposition
in M.P. was Smt Jamuna Devi, who was elected as
the Leader of the Opposition by the Congress party
for the 12th (2003-2008) and 13th Vidhan Sabha (2008-2013).
Jamuna Devi was popular in M.P.
politics by nickname as “Buaji”.
Jamuna Devi was born on 19th November, 1929 in
Sardarpur in Dhar district of M.P. In 1962, she
reached Parliament for the first time by winning the
third Lok Sabha election on a Congress ticket. She
was also a member of the Rajya Sabha from 1978
to 1981. Jamuna Devi died in Indore on 24th
September. 2010.
