M.P.’s New Forest policy was
announced on 4th April, 2005. Its main objective is to
manage the forests under their ecological, social,
economical and technical aspects. Forest based
communities and forest production are also to be
directed as to ensure the forest protection.
Main Provisions of Forest Policy, 2005
1. Promote plantation under Lok Vaniki (public
forestry) and extension forestry.
2. To promote forest based industries and eco-tourism
3. To check uncontrolled grazing.
4. Sustainable exploitation of forest produce.
5. Establishment of special courts for speedy trial.
6. Promote group patrolling through setup of forest
chowki system particularly in sensitive areas, in
addition to provide arms to forest guards.
7. “Forest system” to fulfil forest based needs of local
community.
8. Earmark 10% fo the forest area under intensive
management for production of timber.
9. Make efforts for sustainable development of weaker
sections of the society.
10.Attract private investment for the afforestation
work on a large scale in the forestry sector.
