A flower is a modified, condensed shoot
specialised to carry out sexual reproduction in
higher plants. A typical flower has a stalk, called
pedicel and four different whorls arranged in a
ring and fixed on a swollen structure called
thalamus.
(i) Calyx It is the outermost whorl of flower
Its individual units are sepals.
(ii) Corolla It is the inner whorl of flower next
to calyx. The individual units are petals.
(iii) Androecium It is the third whorl of flower
whose individual units are stamens.
(iv) Gynoecium or Pistil It is the fourth
last whorl. The individual units are carpels
