The word ‘Bhil’ is derived from a Tamil word
Villuvar which means ‘Bow’. The another maening of
word Bhil is Kaman. Bhils are usually equipped with Bow,
which is used for hunting and defence. In literature Bhil
word first appeared in Katha Sarit Sagar (Somdevl). An
artist Gundhapa used this word in the play.
Colonel James Todd called Bhils as Forest- Son
(Banputras). According to him, the word Bhil originated
from ‘Bear which means ‘Command’.
