The Act for Madhya Pradesh and
Berar Panchayats come into effect for local self-
government before independence in Madhya
Pradesh on 28th Jan., 1948. After Independence, the
Central Provinces and the Government of Berar,
under the local self-government department, enacted
the Central Provinces and Berar Panchayats Rules
1948, using the powers conferred by section 144 of
the “Central Provinces and Panchayats of
Berar” Rule 1946.
