According to ‘Prabandh Chintamani’ and
‘Prabhavak Charitra’, Bharthari was the king of Ujjaini. He
was the elder brother of King Chandragupta Vikramaditya.
He ruled over Ujjaini for 12 years. He handed over the
empire to his younger brother and become a monk under
Guru Gorrakhnath. His work place was Chunar (U. P.) and
his samadhi is at Sariska (Rajasthan).
Main Compositions : He is also known as Shatak Tray.
He composed Tri Shatak : Niti Shatak, Shrigar Shatak and
Vairagya Shatak.
Other : Vakya Padiya (A Sanskrit Grammar), Bhaag Vritti,
Mahabhasya Tripadiya, Mahabhakya Deepika, Shabd
Dhatu Sameeksha, Sutra Mimansa, Vedanta Sutra Vritti.
