For healthy adults with normal readings (below 120/80 mmHg), blood pressure should be checked every 3 to 5 years between ages 18 and 39, and at least once a year starting at age 40 or if you have risk factors like obesity or diabetes. Anyone diagnosed with high blood pressure should monitor it much more frequently—typically once or twice daily when adjusting medications, or a few times a week once blood pressure is stable. For the most accurate reading, rest quietly for five minutes beforehand, sit with your feet flat on the floor, and keep your arm supported at heart level.
