According to Article 243-1 of the
Indian Constitution, the State Election Commissioner
shall be appointed by the Governor. The State Election
Commissioner can be removed from his post in the
same manner and on the same basis as in the case
of a judge of a High Court. His main function is to
look after the elections of local Bodies.
