The Gond tribe belonging to Proto
Australoid species group mainly inhabit the mountain
regions of Vindhya and Satpura. The word ‘Gond’ has
been derived from Kond (a Telgu word), which sounds
the meaning of mountain. Gond called themselves as Koetar.
