Minor forest produce of M.P. are
tendu leaf, lakh, Harra, Baheda,Amla, Mahua, Khair
etc.
(a) Lakh – In M.P., Lakh is extracted from the trees
of Palash, Ghont, Kusum, Beery and plant of
Arhar. Lakh manufacturing industry is situated in
Umaria. Main Areas – Jabalpur, Seoni, Shahdol,
Hoshangabad, Bhopal, Indore, Jhabua, Mandla etc.
Uses – Bangles, medicines, toys, chemicals and
cosmetics.
(b) Harra (Terminelia Chefula) – It is a multiple use
tree. Fruits of this tree contains 35 to 40%
“Tanning”. is found in the fruits of harra tree. Main
Areas – Chhindwara, Jabalpur, Sheopur, Balaghat,
Shahdol, Betul, Panna, Seoni, Mandla, Satna,
Hashangabad etc. Uses – Tanning of leather, Ink,
Paint, Medicines (Ayurvedic) and food items.
(c) Khair (Acacia Catechu) – It is abundantly found
in the state particularly in Shivpuri and Banmore
(Morena) and each has one Kathha manufacturing
unit. Main areas : Guna, Sheopur, Shivpuri, Jabalpur,
Sagar, Damoh, Umaria, Hoshangabad etc. Uses –
Kathha, paint, tanning of leather and as a medicine
(for digestion).
